It has to be one of the more unusual and remarkable sales to come to the local property market.

The former British Legion Hall in Paulton, which for decades was where the Legion and brownies met up, parties were held and snooker tournaments were fiercely contested, is up for sale

The building, right in the heart of Paulton, is on the market with local agency Sam Chivers which are managing open bids. The guide price for the building is £50,000.

Back in October, Paulton British Legion announced that after nearly a century in the village it was closing down the chapter. A notice on the building told members of the plans to dispose of the site, which is charity land and is being sold by private treaty.

But as well as being a building at the heart of the Paulton community, the site itself dates back even further.

It was where the first Methodist meeting house was sited and where in September 13 1776, John Wesley, the English minister who led the religious revival, came to preach.

He wrote in his journal : " I preached in the new house at Paulton, to a plain, simple, loving people."

When the number of Methodists outgrew that simple house, a new church was built on its present site in Paulton in 1826.

Potential buyers have until February 19 to put in an offer through Sam Chivers. You can contact them via the top of the Midsomer Norton Nub page, or by calling 01761 411020.
