Outstanding - that's the verdict of inspectors for the Midsomer Norton forest school, Free Rangers.

The nursery, at Welton Manor Farm House, on Millards Hill, in Midsomer was previously judged as Good - but now it has a much-coveted Outstanding status. Specifically following an inspection by the Ofsted team, the school's report was :

Overall effectiveness - Outstanding

The quality of education - Outstanding

Behaviour and attitudes - Outstanding

Personal development - Outstanding

Leadership and management - Outstanding

The school itself is rightly proud telling Nub News : " Receiving an Outstanding from Ofsted has confirmed to our staffing team and families what we already knew. We prioritise every child's emotional wellbeing, social development and connection with nature before we consider anything else. We always do this working alongside parents and carers and we feel that's truly when outstanding things happen. Just imagine when our school opens. A continuation of the same, where we'll be working hard to bring humanity back to education."

The inspectors were full of praise for the school, reporting of the education plans being nothing short of excellent, and praising an ambitious curriculum.

In the report they state: " They provide children with an exceptional early learning experience that centres around nature and the outdoor environment. Children benefit greatly from their daily farm walks, where they learn about farm animals. For example, babies who are beginning to use sounds to communicate look to staff and make animal sounds. Older babies are very familiar with the environment and highlight to staff when the horse is not in the barn.

"Highly attentive staff share the children's enthusiasm for what they see and respond with interest when they notice differences. .....

"Staff empower children to be highly curious, independent learners. Children have exceptional levels of engagement and an eagerness to learn..... animated staff use their excellent teaching style to excite children and keep them engaged. "

There are 191 children at the school which first registered in 2011 and they have plans to expand.
