A well-used mental health support group in Peasedown St John has received a funding boost thanks to the village's Community Trust.

The Peasedown Social & Wellbeing Group provides a self and welcoming space for members of the community who are dealing with loneliness and depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. They meet weekly at the new Hive Community Centre.

Just recently, Peasedown Community Trust awarded them with a £100 grant in support of their work.

Chairman of the Trust, Gavin Heathcote, said: "The trustees were impressed by the work that the Wellbeing Group does to support those in need.

"They provide a space where those who need a listening ear can go to chat, make new friends and share the difficulties they may be going through with their mental health.

"In England, 1 in 4 people will struggle with their mental health during their lifetime which is why it's important that support groups like ours in Peasedown receive the help they need."

According to MIND, the mental health charity, 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (like anxiety and depression) in any given week in England.

On average:

- 8 in 100 people live with mixed anxiety and depression

- 6 in 100 people live with Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

- 4 in 100 people experience Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

- 3 in 100 people live with depression

- 2% of the population live with some kind of phobia

- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) affects 1 in 100 people

In January, Peasedown Community Trust will be announcing the launch of a new 'Mental Health Matters' initiative, in partnership with Sovereign Housing.
