An application to build a standby gas generator plant on land in Midsomer Enterprise Park has today, (April 14) been given the green light, by Bath planners.

The application caused controversy because the planned scheme, on land south of Unit 18 on the Enterprise Park, is only 220 metres from Welton Primary School.

The area concerned, which covers around 0.11 hectares is located between Prime Tools and Avon Steel. The proposed site to accommodate the standby generators only occupies the eastern portion of the undeveloped land immediately adjacent to the existing industrial units, which are currently home to the Norton MOT Centre.

Plans are for the gas generator plant and what is called 'associated infrastructure'.

According to the original planning application, made in September last year, the company said the plant will operate for around four hours per day at peak times, and typically around

2,500 hours per year - although Conrad Energy Developments Limited conceded that in reality the engines could operate at other times and for more hours.

The details are on the B&NES planning portal site, under reference number

PP-08130845.
