With Halloween fast approaching, Metro Mayor Dan Norris found out about one of the best places for local people to source their seasonal squash when he grabbed a wheelbarrow to get pumpkin picking at the Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park.
They have just reopened their 40,000-strong Pumpkin Patch packed full of fruits of different shapes, sizes and colours. It's the South West's biggest pick your own Pumpkin Extravaganza!
Metro Mayor Dan Norris, who runs the West of England Explore Local campaign, met owner Doug Douglas and his father John Douglas who first opened the park 33 years ago to discuss how local attractions, including Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park, are vital to the region's economy.
Willy Wonka style, hidden within one plump pumpkin is a golden ticket to win an £800 pumpkin necklace! The family-friendly site is also offering Halloween theatrical performances, a fire show, food tent with lots of yummy local produce, an apple cannon, pumpkin paintball and a brand-new funfair with dodgems sure to keep everyone entertained for hours.
Metro Mayor Dan Norris said: "What an amazing way to spice up your October. I'm sure lots of people will want to carve out some time for this. We really do have some great things to do right here on our doorstep. Let's wrap up warm and get out there to rediscover all our amazing region has to offer this Halloween and beyond".
The pick your own pumpkin patch is open throughout October.
