Extra care tenants and staff at Greenacres Court in Midsomer Norton will tuck into a fantastic Christmas dinner this year thanks to the generosity of the local branch of the TSB.

The bank has offered to cover the cost of all tenant and staff meals on Christmas Day as well as providing every resident with a small gift.

Councillor Rob Appleyard, cabinet member for Adult Services, said: "This is a wonderful gesture from staff at the TSB in Midsomer Norton and we are very grateful for their generosity. It's been such a challenging year for residents of care homes and sheltered housing who, despite the best efforts of staff, have often felt isolated from loved ones and their community as a result of coronavirus restrictions. So, this Christmas perhaps more than ever, it's important they know their community is thinking of them."

Greenacres Court is home to 30 tenants who will all be provided with a three- course traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.

Tina Manley, manager of TSB Midsomer Norton, said: "TSB was set up to help communities thrive and at Midsomer Norton branch we want to have a greater social impact by becoming involved with and supporting our local community, whether this be by donating our time or money. This year has been hard for everyone but even more so for people like the residents of Greenacres.

"Greenacres is a vital part of our local community and we're really proud to support them in this way. Through lockdown they have been unable to receive visits from their families and friends in the or socialize between themselves as they normally would do, this has kept them safe but also made them feel quite isolated. We wanted to do something to bring some Christmas cheer to them and a smile to their faces. Although they may not be able to celebrate as they normally would do this year, we hope they all have a lovely Christmas. It's fantastic to know that our donation will really make a difference to people in our local community."

Susan Lane, Greenacres manager, added: "Our staff always work hard to make Christmas memorable and special for our tenants, but after such a difficult year this is a lovely gesture from TSB. Staff and residents are looking forward to sharing their Christmas lunch together and are very grateful to the TSB for their generosity."
