Motorists in Midsomer Norton will not be surprised to hear that the local roads are full of potholes.

But what they might not know is the number of potholes already filled across B&NES only until now.

The council say that they've repaired 4,178 potholes so far this year. But they also admit : "We know there's more to do, and we're using different methods to fix them, like jet patching. "

But as one comment on social media from Midsomer Norton added that this method will only work if floods don't come along and wash the repair out.

" Unblock the drains in Midsomer Norton if you don't want it washed away," they posted.

The council has reminded people that they can report a problem on the roads HERE https://beta.bathnes.gov.uk/report-problem-highway-or-public-space-0

According to the Liberal Democrats 556,658 potholes were reported in the financial year 2021/22 across 81 councils in the UK, up from 519,968 in 2017/18.

Roads in Derbyshire County Council were the hardest hit with 90,596 potholes, followed by Lancashire County Council with 67,439 and Northumberland County Council with 51,703, the party said.

Why does the UK have so many potholes? The weather is being blamed, cold and wet weather, particularly during the winter months, means water can get into cracks in the road and then freeze, eventually leading to potholes.
