The Tyning Inn, which was still being advertised as a going concern for potential licensees has now been boarded up.

In the sales pitch looking for people to take on the Inn, which is at the top of Radstock close to the Walnut Buildings, the pub was described as " An attractive, historical stone built building and is known as a traditional drink focused community local pub."

But today (March 4 ) it looked a little down at heel, having now been boarded up for security reasons.

Even on the sale site, potential buyers were warned : "There is a function room in some state of disrepair."

On the Love Your Pub site it was described as : " A lovely pub with bags of potential, the successful tenant should want to embrace community life and have excellent retail standards. Upon a long term agreement we would be willing to do capital investment to bring this historic site back to its glory days."

On social media some local residents did speculate that they could get together and save the pub and perhaps open a community shop on the site too.

This could be done using the budget announcement of a new £150 million Community Ownership Fund to help ensure that communities across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland can support and continue benefiting from the local facilities, community assets and amenities most important to them.

Community groups will be able to bid for up to £250,000 matched-funding to help them buy or take over local community assets at risk of being lost, to run as community-owned businesses.

The first bidding round for the Community Ownership Fund will open by June 2021.

The Inn was once where the game of Quoits (a game a bit like horseshoes) which was played by miners, with Radstock apparently winning the 'world championship' there in 1927 - beating Farrington Gurney in the final.
