There was a site visit to the on-going renovations and rejuvenation of the iconic Midsomer Norton Town Hall this week to see how work was progressing.

And according to one of those who went inside, visitors can expect high drama, literally, when the hall is re-opened.

Described as " impressive " the work is currently under the first phase of engineering changes, which began last month. While from the street the building, built around 1860, seems unchanged, the interior has already been opened up into an inspiring space.

Midsomer Norton Town Council Clerk Donna Ford , who was part of the site visit team said: " Whilst externally the Town Hall still looks largely the same, progress on the internal demolition and strip out of the market hall space is progressing well: the ground floor offices have now removed, along with has the most of the first floor rooms and much of the first floor structure itself.

""For anyone who has used the small, cramped rooms within the Town Hall, the changes to the interior will be dramatic.

"The works have exposed the inner face of the original stone walls and revealed, for the first time in the best part of a hundred years, the impressive height and scale of the original market space.

"These internal changes to the building will continue to progress over the coming weeks as work moves on to preparation for the demolition of the old air raid shelter at the rear of the building and the installation of the temporary structural works needed to allow the formation of the new foundations and drainage that will eventually be concealed beneath the ground floor slab.
