The parking space which has become a memorial to a local teenager who was killed in an attack in Radstock should remain a permanently peaceful space, a new campaign argues.

Nearly three thousand have already signed an on-line petition to keep the space in the car park behind the library closed to cars. As you can see from today (August 23) this photo, the area has become a grieving space for Charley Bates family and friends who continue to leave flowers and tributes.

The space has been marked off with cones and will remain closed the sign says until September 30.

But now supporters are putting together an appeal to make the bay what they call " A sacred memorial and peaceful space in honour of Charley."

Adding : " We urge BANES council to consider preserving this bay as 'Charley's Bay' indefinitely. We request that this space does not become an ordinary parking bay, and that it continues to be a space for Charley's friends, family and public to visit, reflect, honour, remember and respect Charley. "

The young people from the Somer Valley have been praised for their respect, compassion and dignity since the incident on July 31 with the family later paying tribute to their son. An 18 year old from Frome has been arrested and charged with murder.
