This week, the Prime Minister wrote to all Members of Parliament to set out what our lives would be like from July 19 should we move to Step 4 of the Roadmap.

This decision will be subject to a review of the final data next week. The Prime Minister previously paused Step 4 because he wanted to maximise the administration of vaccinations as well as having more time to see the evidence that inoculations have helped to break the link between disease and death.

It has grown ever clearer that these vaccines are successful, with the majority of those now admitted to hospital unvaccinated and with data highlighting the greatly reduced mortality that the immunisations have achieved.

By mid-September, everyone over 18 should have had two vaccines in addition to the autumn programme of booster doses for the most vulnerable.

People will be encouraged to make their own decisions about how to manage the risk instead of the Government imposing legal restrictions but a test, trace and isolate system that is proportionate to the pandemic will still be in place along with self-isolation in response to a positive test.

It is vital that our society is reopened in the next few weeks, which will be helped by the arrival of summer and school holidays.

If we were to delay this until the winter the virus would have an advantage so we must use this opportunity to start living a more "normal" life while managing the virus and assuming personal responsibility.

This week has been the 73rd anniversary of the National Health Service and I agree with the Prime Minister that there could not be a more fitting moment to pay tribute to every one of our NHS and social care workers by protecting ourselves and others and having the vaccination as soon as it is offered.
