Attending with his young family, Mayor of Midsomer Norton, Cllr Gordon Mackay was at the first of five nights in Midsomer Norton to see a packed Big Top marvel at John Lawson's Circus, held at the town's Norton Down rugby ground.

Ring Master Attila Endrész compèred a stunning evening of entertainment with his sidekick Bippo the Clown keeping smiles aplenty between the talented acts which opened with Miss Cristina's mesmerising foot-juggling display followed by a fast-paced roller skating dance round the big-top by Duo Santus. High above the circus ring, Chelsea performed her Aerial Revue with France's Bettina Nina on the Chinese Pole.

Alessandro and Chistina, from Germany, amazed the audience with their slack-wire routine and Miss Emelia enchanted the onlookers with her aerial skills. Duo Santus returned to perform on their unicycles before Chelsea finished the evening with an unmissable light and dance display.

John Lawson's Circus, returning to Midsomer Norton after a successful run last year, will be putting on two shows a day until their last performance on Sunday night before the troupe moves next to Jocelyn Park in Chard and the Showfield in Shepton Mallet after that.

Cllr Gordon Mackay was lucky enough to grab a quick picture with stars Attila and Bippo after the show.

"We're so lucky this amazing show is visiting us here in Midsomer Norton. I hope everyone takes the chance to see it. Hot on the heels of the Community Trust's amazing Town Farye last weekend and the Music Festival just last month; we've still got the Outfield Festival to come! What an amazing summer of entertainment in Midsomer Norton."

Tickets for the circus are available on their website https://johnlawsonscircus.co.uk/tour
