Katie Chun has been named as the first ever winner of the new Peasedown St John Community Civic Award.

Founded by the Peasedown Community Trust, the award has been created to honour and recognise the village's local unsung heroes.

Trust Chairman, Gavin Heathcote, said:

"We were pleased to award Katie Chun with the first ever Peasedown St John Community Civic Award at the weekend.

Katie has gone 'above and beyond' in her service to the community this year with her voluntary work at the school and at the Hive.

Well done, Katie - we're all very proud of you!"

Katie is heavily involved with the school PTA, organising events and bringing parents and children together for various good causes. She has also been instrumental behind the scenes in setting up Peasedown's new community centre – The Hive.

Last Saturday, Trust Chairman Gavin Heathcote and fellow Trustee, Cllr Karen Walker, surprised Katie with the award at The Hive.

Karen added:

"Peasedown St John is a fantastic place to live. Its community spirit is second-to-none thanks to the hard work and dedication of many volunteers who go 'above and beyond' to serve others.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, Peasedown Community Trust launched the brand-new Community Civic Award earlier this year – an award that highlights and applauds the outstanding voluntary service of an individual, or group of individuals, in our village."
