The latest crime figures released by the police show that the biggest single cause of reported crime in the Somer Valley was for violence and sexual offences.

The latest figures (shown for November 22) show that the numbers reported were more than double that of the next type of registered crime which was for shoplifting.

After that the next two listings for for

  • Public order
  • 13
  • Criminal damage and arson
  • 11

Mapping the crimes listed also shows the numbers were more than double in Midsomer Norton compared to Radstock.

The statistics released by police also show that in the full month of November, 13 cases were registered as ' Unable to prosecute the suspect'

The Labour Party has today (December 28) released its figures which they say show that more than one million cases of theft went unsolved last year.

The political party claims that 1,145,254 cases of theft were dropped last year across England and Wales because of the police failing to find a suspect.
