The SWAN charity, which helps driving older and infirm residents to appointments in and around Radstock, has been given a small boost from the nearby council to upgrade its computers.

The charity, based at Wells Road offers advice as well using volunteer drivers to take the elderly to appointments and out for visits.

It has been described by one user as "...a lifesaver. Thanks to everyone who gives their time."

Another said in a survey: " I couldn't get to a place without Swan. So many people are isolated in this modern world. Transport is so important – you can't rely on public transport anymore."

Swan Transport has been running a volunteer transport service since 2001. The service now has a team of around 31 volunteer drivers who use their own cars to transport Swan's clients.

Midsomer Town Council decided last night (January 14) to approve a grant of just over a thousand pounds so that the charity can upgrade its computers and help provide more help.

The money, £1,256.77, will also allow them to buy a new computer.

To find out more about Swan transport telephone 01761 439548. Their offices are open 9.30am - 3.00pm Monday - Friday or email [email protected].
