A local school mufti day held at the beginning of the month has raised some much-needed funds for a local primary school.

Children at Shoscombe Church School held a 'Break the Rules for April Fools' event on April 1st.

Organised by FOSSA, the Friends of Shoscombe School Association, children were allowed to come to school for the day in their own clothing – with some wearing Easter bonnets and other spring colours.

Shoscombe School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: "Thanks to all the children who took part in our April Fools Day event. We raised almost £80 which will go towards our school allotment space.

"Creating an outside educational environment, where children get to learn about nature, habitats and wildlife is an essential part of what we do here at Shoscombe Church School."

Shoscombe Church School is also involved with the international Green Flag Eco-Schools Award.

Ruth added: "The programme is designed to raise environmental awareness amongst young people and in England it is run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy. Our school is now part of this global community working to create environmental change for the benefit of our children and future generations. "
