Paulton fire crew rushed to Midsomer Norton (August 12) to an out of control bonfire on what was the hottest day of the year so far.

The team reported that they were called to a 'large' fire in Midsomer which they put out using a high pressure reel jet.

Also in attendance South West Ambulance Service and an air ambulance to administer first aid.

Yesterday it was the hottest day recorded so far by the local weather service, beating a decade of temperature recordings.

Kilmersdon weather recorded 32.6C - which was hotter than the Costa Del Sol, the Balearic Islands, Barcelona, Rhodes, Crete, Limassol and Paphos - who are all around 30-31C. Later he recorded 33.7C - 92F,

Social media comments expressed surprise that anyone would have lit a fire when the weather was so hot and the area so dry.

According to the Kilmersdon Weather site temperatures are expected to moderate to something more average with rain or showers at times in a cooler and fresher Westerly breeze.
