Standing on the 14th tee on the Old Course at Yeovil Golf Club, Farrington Park's ten handicap golfer Steve Coles was contemplating that his tee shot on the preceding par 3 thirteen hole was likely to win him the nearest the pin prize in this year's Yeovil Golf Club's Bowmaker Senior Open.

That was before fellow Club member Tony Waldron, who plays off a handicap of twelve and was in the group immediately behind them, took a nine iron out of his bag, addressed his golf ball, and majestically flew the ball straight into the hole.

Tony had watched Steve take great pleasure in writing his name on the nearest the pin board but didn't get the satisfaction of watching his own ball drop neatly into the cup to score his first ever hole in one after thirty years of playing golf.

The reaction of the group standing on the next tee, all of whom were friends from Farrington Park, did however leave Tony in no doubt that he had achieved every golfer's dream and had done so in a competition with a field of one hundred and thirty-eight competitors. His team also finished in third place in the visitors' section of the competition.
