Rupert Bevan writes about the unexpected consequences of applauding the NHS.
As we begin to shake off the shackles of Covid 19 and return to some semblance of normality, it has been interesting to note that the recent public acknowledgement of the NHS has borne fruit in other arenas.
The fact that people have ventured out of their houses and stood publicly with their neighbours to applaud the heroes of the hour has provided a social catalyst. We have got to know not just the people next door but a whole range of neighbours of whose lives we were totally ignorant. This has led to a range of social activities such as litter picking, picnics and, in one case at least, impromptu concerts.
People have had time to look around them and share their time and talents to improve their locality. A case in point is the Tyning Group. For those who are unfamiliar of the layout of Radstock, Tyning is a large sector sandwiched between the Old Bath Road and Lower Whitelands. Its lofty position above central Radstock makes it an ideal area to bring up young families and the newly formed group, Tyning Together has started to grapple with some of the local issues such as litter picking and using the batch above for constructive children's play.
Tyning Together would love to hear from you, if you live in this area and for a start suggest that you log in to the facebook group
Facebook.com/groups/TyningTogether
Congratulations to all who are taking part. May you be an example for other parts of Radstock to follow.
