A unique piece of history has appeared on a fan site which appears to show that over 60 years ago Radstock had a couple of famous visitors.

The social media page Beatles and Cavern Club Photos, which has over 34,000 followers, posted a photo of a post card sent in 1959 home to Liverpool as two of the Beatles were hitchhiking on holiday .

August 16th 1959 - A postcard from George (Harrison) and Paul (McCartney) sent from Exmouth, sent to George's mother, Louise, while travelling.

"Dear Mum, We arrived here at 12.30 p.m. (Sunday) after an easy days hitching. We left Pauls at 8.0, and stayed Bed + Breakfast at RADSTOCK (Just further past "The Red Lion") Left there at 8.30, and here we are. Everybody today was surprised to see that we had got that far in a day. Pretty good. We might nip off to TORQUAY tomorrow, and then who knows where we might get to after that? We have been laughing on the way down at things, especially at the women whos(sic) house what as how we stayed at. I will send more cards on our travels Cheerio for now George + Paul

But the postcard has led to more questions than answers .. was there a Red Lion in Radstock in 1959? Was there a landlady at the time who realised who her young visitors were? Probably not since it would be a full five years before the Liverpool boys became mega stars.

Where was the B&B ?

Answers on a postcard please
