The community is truly coming together for a little boy from Midsomer Norton, who is being helped by a sausage-roll maker from Mells, and will be supported by the bravest of the brave in Radstock, who are being invited to walk through fire for the seven year old.

Henry Davis, who wins fans with his stellar smile and courage, needs expensive surgery and specialist after care.

At 12 months old he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy spastic diplegia which most noticeably affects Henry's lower limbs making him unable to stand or walk unaided.

His family started fundraise at the beginning of this year and have already raised an impressive £31,500, which has allowed them to book a date for Henry to have his operation on July 11. But they need to double that to pay for the surgery and the three years of rehabilitation that will follow.

Henry, who has just had his birthday, will have SDR surgery which is spinal surgery to remove the stiffness within his legs that stops him from being able stand and walk. This stiffness causes him pain and discomfort daily.

Mum Lara said: " We need to continue our fundraising to cover the aftercare and therapy needed to make this operation a success for Henry so we can improve his quality of life and improve his mobility and independence over the years to come. "

In recent months they have also had help from master sausage roll maker, James Hughes Davies, whose business, with top tasting pastries in the West, is based just outside of Mells.

James contacted the family about a year ago, and as he sold his tasty rolls around the local markets, including Frome's Cheese & Grain, offered to collect for the family. His donations have already totalled £670 and he will continue to collect for the Helping Henry appeal, in fact he says he will help out " indefinitely".

James, whose business, Little Jack Horner's, is based at Lakeside Park in Mells said: " When you run a business it's important, I think, to give a little back to your local community, and since we finished our fundraising for Lisa Wells last year, we were looking for a new charity to support. Henry is a boy that's been dealt a rough hand in life and we'll be continuing to raise money to help fund the care that he needs to make his and his family's life easier."

The family have said they are incredibly grateful to James, but are still short of their target, and time is running out.

So there are two events coming up which residents can support. On January 25 there is a sing together at two o'clock in the afternoon at the church of St Peter and St Paul in Kilmersdon .

Then in April they are making a special appeal to the sure-footed folk of Radstock, who want to try a spot of firewalking. The event is on April 10, in the evening, at Prattens in Westfield.

You can find out more about both events on Henry's facebook page, Helping Henry6 which also has details on how to donate and how the fund is progressing.

You can also donate via the red button.

Henry's family know that they are on a long haul, and even once the money is raised, he will need years of intense post operative rehabilitation. But for their little boy, every step is a big one. Lara said: " Please get in touch if you would like anymore information."
