The local Midsomer Norton paper, first established in 1980 is back in print today (September 17).

The paper's staff had been furloughed during the coronavirus lockdown and they have had their comeback marked by a special column by the local MP Jacob Rees Mogg.

In it he writes of the importance of Local Free Press, saying he had been concerned that the much-loved paper, owned by Tindle group newspapers, may not return.

In today's paper he writes: " It is hard to overestimate the importance of a local free press...Local newspapers play a vital role in this area, and in particular, have the ability to hold public bodies, such as the Council, to account."
