Somer Valley FM is joining radio stations across the UK for Local Radio Day on Friday 24th May.
The Midsomer Norton-based radio station broadcasts local news, information and entertainment to North East Somerset.
Local Radio Day highlights the value of local radio to community life and celebrates the relationship between radio stations and their listeners.
Somer Valley FM, which is ten years old, is planning a special day of shows to celebrate Local Radio Day. Regular presenters Jo Davis and Tristan Reakes are doing a joint Breakfast Show.
Listeners are then invited to join the team at Muffins in Midsomer Norton High Street between 9 and 10am. After Nigel's Friday Brunch listeners, businesses and community groups can join the station at Essence Café, also in the Hight Street between 12 and 1pm.
The afternoon will see a particular celebration of arts in the area. At 3pm the radio station will premier an exciting new play created by the Natural Theatre Company in partnership with the Somer Valley Voice Show.
'Fete worse than death,' is a murder mystery set in the world of Midsomer Gurton and its local radio station.
Later in the afternoon the broadcast shifts to the private view the new Fresh Art Exhibition. Led by Creativity Works and part of the Fringe Arts Bath Festival, this explores the links between art and positive wellbeing and mental health.
Local Radio Day is being supported by Midsomer Norton-based business BPB Accounting Solutions Ltd.
Managing Director, Bev Iles, said: "We are really pleased to be sponsoring Somer Valley FM on Local Radio Day.
"Having local people talk about what is important to them is a major benefit to the community life of our area."
Somer Valley FM is supported by 100 volunteers who produce 70 hours of new programmes every week.
The stations longtime manager, Dom Chambers, said: "I am particularly excited about Local Radio Day this year as we have a chance to get out of the studio and showcase what we are actually doing every day.
"We are inherently local from the people we train, to the voices we empower, to the stories we share.
"Being live in Midsomer Norton High Street is a great opportunity to meet our listeners and people who care about life in our area."
