The people of Midsomer Norton were treated to good weather on Saturday 12th February to celebrate the first wassailing event since 2019.

The fun started Saturday morning with an arts and crafts session for the children to create their own king and Queen crowns. In place of two children being crowned this year all children were made wassail royalty.

At 1pm traditional folk music was played as people began to file into the Town Hall where the Master of Ceremonies gave a short speech.

Programmes were handed out listing the days details, market stalls waiting at the Town park and a Wassail Rhyme.

After the Kings and Queens had lined up for a picture of their creative crowns, the procession started. The master of ceremonies took lead and as the music played, the bells of the Morris men and the pots and pans of the attendees rang out.

Midsomer Norton's Mayor, Lynda Robertson, said it was lovely to see the town enjoying themselves, as many people joined the procession as it walked to the Town Park. Others stood to take pictures.

Once at the Town park a range of market stalls and refreshments waited and the Cam Valley Morris Men entertained with their lively dance. The mayor then gave a short speech and the Master of Ceremonies declared the trees ready to be dressed with toast.

The Wassail event concluded with all participants shouting a Wassail Rhyme and lots of noise made.

Hopefully with the evil spirits ward off and the gift of toast for the tree spirits given, Midsomer Norton's apple trees will harvest well come Autumn.
