Midsomer Norton's Pure Taste boss supports the NHS in more ways than one

Pure Taste in Midsomer Norton has been helping out key workers with a free hot drink whenever they can, but now they have also been part of a local NHS thank you.

Owner Daniel Newman, who started the tiny central shop eight years ago after leaving the MoD, is keen to be as much part of the community as he can be.

Yesterday (April 6) he made up a special lunchtime buffet part of a thank you to the medical team at St Chads.

Daniel explained: " The practice manager arranged it for the doctors and nurses for all the extra work and hours they've been working.

" I was really happy to do it, and of course some of it came from my own pocket. I loved making it."

Partly his selflessness is driven by the fact his family work for the NHS - but it is mainly just because he cares about his customers - and misses them.

Takings are down around fifty per cent with him only serving a handful of customers a day, but mostly he misses the community in his little sandwich shop.

He told Nub News: " I loved my regular customers, the solicitors from Thatcher + Hallam, the man who makes pianos, the local carers, they were all lovely and everyone would stop and chat."

Now Pure Taste is serving about 25 customers per day with social distancing rules in place which is hard financially but he says " I can cope" and he hopes to keep going as long as it takes.

Orders can be made over the phone (01761 414499) with Pure Taste opening at 9am and finishing when the last customer is served (usually around 2pm).

Daniel said: " As long as people still need and want me to be here, I will keep going, but I do miss the chats."
