Midsomer Norton's MP, Jacob Rees-Mogg, has been given a frontbench role in the Government and has shared his thoughts on new Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Last night Mr Rees-Mogg was made Leader of the House of Commons by Mr Johnson, and will now play a key role in seeing the new Prime Minister's Brexit plans through Parliament.

And Mr Rees-Mogg told Midsomer Norton Nub News that he thinks Mr Johnson will "galvanise the United Kingdom".

He said: "Yesterday afternoon, following his election earlier this week as the new leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party, Boris Johnson was asked by the Queen to form a new Government, officially taking over from Theresa May as Prime Minister.

"Boris has always been the only figure who could unite the party, the country and deliver Brexit by 31st October.

"The optimism and confidence that Boris displays are essential as we venture into the next phase of negotiations with the European Union, which intends to obstruct our exit at every opportunity.

"As Prime Minister he will, with his charisma, drive and forward-thinking, galvanise the United Kingdom both domestically and internationally, changing the fortunes of the party and country simultaneously."
