Midsomer Norton and Radstock Royal British Legion have officially opened a new Veterans Support Cafe at the Somerset Coalfield Life museum.

It is an opportunity for local veterans and their families to meet twice per month with support from local RBL members.

The new cafe was officially launched with representatives of the RBL and from the Armed Forces charity, formerly known as Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association, SSAFA, present.

The photo shows the ribbon cutting by Mrs Sue Bendle, mother-in-law of Corporal Gordon Pritchard of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards who was the 100th member of the British Armed Forces to be killed in Iraq.

Also in the picture are Graham Jagger (RBL), Dr Nick Hall (Chair of Radstock Museum), Councillor Eleanor Jackson (Chair of BANES Council) and Denis Louzet (RBL).

The Somerset Coalfield Life museum now has a total of six community cafe programmes running for local residents. You can find out about all of them here .The museum's site.

Meantime the museum has revealed that it has had most successful month in the Museum's 20 year history in Radstock, with nearly 1500 visitors.
