Over 300 books collected by generous children at Norton Hill Primary school

By Susie Watkins 12th Dec 2022

The children at Norton Hill Primary School have really been getting into the spirit of compassion and community this Christmas by contributing a range of books to the local 'Gift a Book' campaign at their local library in Midsomer Norton.

The campaign, which has been run since 2019 by BANES local libraries, collects new and good condition pre-loved books for all ages, genres and formats. These are distributed via various local organisations and charities to help provide gifts for vulnerable or lonely people and families who may otherwise not receive a present at Christmas.

The children of years Reception, 1 and 2 and their families have spent the last few weeks bringing a significant contribution of their books to be donated to this worthy cause. Headteacher of Norton Hill Primary, Mrs Waterhouse said: 'We are incredibly proud of the efforts made by our children in collecting over 300 books and we are very pleased to help out this important campaign'.

Author Stephen King has called books 'a uniquely portable magic' and so gifting books this season has been a wonderful way the children can share Christmas magic to others.
