The future of Bath and North East Somerset's climate action will be up for debate at a hustings for the local elections.
Candidates from four political parties standing locally will be at the hustings on April 3, which have been organised by local charity Transition Bath to answer questions on their environmental policies, and what they will do for the planet if elected in May.
Sarah Warren, councillor for Bathavon North and the council's current cabinet member for climate, will represent the Liberal Democrats; the Conservatives will be represented by Combe Down candidate Bob Goodman; Tamsin Egan will speak for the Labour; and prospective parliamentary candidate for Bath Dominic Tristram will represent the Green party.
The hustings will have a "Question Time format," with questions from the audience submitted in advance, and "quickfire questions" if time allows.
Sara Grimes, chair of Transition Bath, says "I am really looking forward to hearing the policies of each of the parties. At Transition Bath we believe that combatting climate change and creating a safe, healthy environment is one of the major challenges facing the people of Bath and the United Kingdom.
"We really need to know where our next council stands on these issues."
Independent councillor Colin Blackburn questioned on Twitter why nobody representing the independent group on the council had been invited to take part, posting on the social media site: "Why is the term four MAIN political parties used when Independents, non party political, make up the third largest 'group' in [Bath and North East Somerset?]"
But Peter Andrews, from charity Energy Sparks, who is chairing the hustings said that they felt the independent councillors were more relevant for debates in their specific wards and this debate was looking at the overall policy of the next council.
The event will take place at Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution on Queen Square in Bath, at 7.30pm on April 3.
Tickets to the event will cost £3.95 and are available here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/husting-on-environmental-climate-change-issues-re-may-2023-elections-tickets-587358062777
