Planning agenda for Midsomer Norton WILL include housing over in Mendip, and its bats at 'Spoons
The planning agenda for next week's meeting of Midsomer Norton Town Council will include discussion about the proposed Curo development over to the west of town and under the control of Mendip.
There were bad tempered exchanges at this week's full Midsomer Council meeting about whether councillors should be opposing the application, with the argument that with the application made across the planning border not much could be done.
Cllr Shaun Hughes has urged the council to get involved. He wrote: "A public meeting was held to discuss the development proposed by Curo to demolish 2 social houses to gain access to the field and build 60 homes, more than 60 residents attended, they were surprised and annoyed that of 11 Town Councillors and four Ward Councillors only one attended. This application has received around 150 written objections which is significantly more than any other application for several years including the Gas Generator that had 54 objections, residents have delivered hundreds of leaflets and been very pro-active in their opposition.
"This development is not a "done deal" and as an elected councillors we were elected to represent and support residents and protect our communities."
Midsomer Norton Town Council has requested an extension to allow the application 22/02932/FUL to be reviewed.
At Monday's meeting councillors will also be looking at the issue of bats at the Wetherspoons on the High Street in Midsomer Norton. An application 22/03311/VAR has been made to planners about what if any impact the lighting from the pub may have on any bats. The company has put in a bat roost which is being inspected for the next three years, with two inspections every year, in June and the other in August or September along with up to two 'emergence' surveys a year.
The public are welcome at the meeting on September 12 at 7pm. Details HERE
