In planning news in and around Midsomer Norton this week.

An additional planning application has been put in to develop the field that is now surrounded by the development work off Silver Street, Midsomer Norton. Under Application Reference: 20/02303/OUT if planning is granted there will be a net increase of 30 dwellings on the site. The land, to the east side of Silver Street is approximately 2.03 hectares and is currently farm land. It is an open field and is bounded by hedge rows, but it is now landlocked, so no longer suitable for agricultural use as it is bounded on three sides by permitted/built-out development. The whole develoment area has already been granted permission (under planning permission ref. 18/02095/OUT) for the following road works:

Widening of the carriageway to 6.2 to allow for two-way coach movement;

Street lighting along Silver Street fronting the new school;

Provision of a 3 metre shared cycle/footway from the Rugby Club to the south west to the existing footway to the north, adjacent to the Secondary School; and

The relocation of the speed limit change from 60mph to 30mph to the south of the Rugby Club,

In its entirety the site (under planning reference 18/02095/OUT ) will eventually see a new 630 pupil primary school (D1); up to 40 residential dwellings (C3); a 64 bed care home (C2) and sheltered housing for 15 (C3).

Under application reference: 20/02335/FUL Valley View, on Millards Hill, Welton, BA3 2UX, planners are considering whether to allow the building of a first floor balcony to the rear of dwelling.
