Planning news in and around Radstock

By Susie Watkins 17th Feb 2022

Planning news in and around Radstock this week includes:

Planners have approved the application for a 66 bedroomed care home on land (Parcel 3700) on Silver Street, in Midsomer Norton.

This was a delegated decision and is part of the overall development of the area, which in 2018 agreed to the construction of a school and an additional 40 houses.

But the care home addition will only contribute to the traffic problems argued one opponent.

They wrote to planners to say: " It is most unfortunate that this development is yet another green field site development when there are other brown field sites available for use. Indeed there are empty boarded-up purpose built care homes in nearby villages (High Littleton for example) that could be revamped to meet any pressing need rather than put more agricultural land under tarmac. "

The application was put in by LNT Care Developments And Strategic Land Partnerships. All the details under 21/04245/FUL

Planners are considering an application for two dormer windows to replace existing roof lights at 7 Sunnymead in Midsomer Norton, (details under 22/00454/FUL).

In Westfield at 22 Highfields, ( under 22/00408/FUL) there is an application to work on ground floor infill, build on the front elevation dormer and some internal alterations.

At Janbria, Ham Lane, in Paulton, ( 22/00014/FUL) a retrospective application has been put in to install a Velux roof light.

Meantime over in Shoscombe planners are considering an application by Double Hill Farm, (postcode BA2 8PT) under (22/00537/COND) to discharge the wildlife protection condition on an active planning application. 19/05413/ADCOU is for prior approval for change of use from agricultural barns into four homes along with associated operational development. This is a resubmission of an earlier application.

In planning decisions made this week by B&NES:

Permitted, an application for a two-storey side extension at 3 St Mark's Road, in Midsomer Norton.

Discharged, conditions for the mortar type to be used at Manor Farm House Nursing Home, on Church Street, in Radstock. This is for the building of a waterproofed link between five detached bedrooms and the main part of the home. (Details under application 20/00038/LBA)

They have no objection to an application by 62 Lower Whitelands in Radstock, to fell two large Poplars.

And plans for a 10m x 7m concrete slab and the erection of 10m x 4m anti-vandal container comprising a small kitchen with electrics and plumbing and a disabled toilet over at Peasedown, have been given the go-ahead. That is going to be happening at the recreation ground at Church Road, BA2 8AA.

And advanced warning, there will be a Temporary Prohibition of use by Vehicles order on the main Radstock road, for Western Power to erect a new pole from March 24. This could mean traffic disruption in the town for up to 12 days.
