In planning news in and around Radstock this week:

An application is in to remove three Ash trees at Nelson Ward Drive, in Radstock, ( under reference 21/03979/TC5) due to them being infected with Ash dieback.

At the Wellow Lane roundabout, along the Peasedown St John by-pass, an application is in for telecommunications work. Under PP-10132285, CK Hutchison Networks, has put in an application for a 15 metre high pole, along with associated ancillary works for what is referred to as " acute need" to improve mobile coverage in the area.

CK Hutchison are putting in infrastructure for the Three network which are in the process of building out the UK's fastest 5G network. To bring this new technology the company says : " New sites will be needed for many reasons, including that the higher radio frequencies used for 5G

do not travel as far as those frequencies currently in use and that sometimes not all existing sites can be upgraded. In this area there is an acute need for a new mast to deliver the above. The proposed equipment has been strategically located on the grass verge at A367, there will be no impact to pedestrian flow or safety. "

In High Littleton, New Haven, on New Road (under reference

21/03949/FUL) has put in an application for a single storey side extension.

Planning decisions made this week include:

Paulton Memorial Hospital, on Salisbury Road, has been granted permission to shape and cut back a Beech tree on the site.

At 3 Homefield, in Timsbury the homeowners have been granted permission to alter and increase the height of the boundary wall and other associated works.

Meanwhile the Local Democracy Reporter writes:

A closed pub could rise again as a bakery, cafe and laid-back pizzeria run by a "well known" Bath business.

Behind reopening as a gastropub, an Italian restaurant was second on Weston residents' wish list for the Kings Head, according to developer PMBC Ltd.

There was also "huge demand" for somewhere for people to meet during the day in a cafe-style environment and to get breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.

All will be on offer if plans for the ground floor and basement of the grade II-listed High Street pub are approved.

PMBC's application says: "The new operation will operate as an all day cafe offering a full brunch and bakery"led menu, with fresh artisanal bread made on the premises and other cakes and pastries provided by the sister company in the city centre.

"Come the evening the venue will reinvent itself into a laid"back pizzeria serving stonebaked sourdough pizzas alongside a range of drinks including local craft beers and ciders.

"The focus of the business, much like its sister company in town, will be on quality, seasonal food, made fresh on the premises, with a very strong focus on sourcing food and other services locally and operating in a community"spirited and sustainable fashion."

It adds: "It is considered the proposed change of use of the former King's Head to a bakery/cafe/restaurant represents a positive beneficial reuse of an important community building by a local operator, which has been vacant and underutilised for a notable period of time."

PMBC said the premises have been marketed for more than six months without success, showing the pub is not economically viable.

It said there was interest from a well-known Bath business that would boost the economy and create 11 jobs.

The proposed tenant wants to open between 8am and 11.30pm, with deliveries from 6am.

Bath and North East Somerset Council will consider the application, reference 21/03623/FUL.
