An update on plans for the Enterprise Zone at Old Mills. An application is in for related highways works including a new roundabout on the A362 and associated development with details about the planning umbrella under which work will be carried out, a Local Development Order.
SVEZ was granted 'Enterprise Zone' (EZ) status by the Government in April 2017, as part of the wider Bath and Somer Valley Enterprise Zone. " The EZ status demonstrates support for economic development in the form of new job creation, business space provision and more generally a contribution towards economic growth of the local economy," Planners state in the application.
This Enterprise Zone, should include: ■ Commercial buildings within Use Classes E (b, g), B2 and B8 (including ancillary trade counter); and ■ A range of food, beverage and hotel buildings within Use Classes C1 and Sui Generis, including a public house and hot food takeaways. ■ Highways related works including a new roundabout and related works to A362, road widening and safety improvements to the A362, new cycle, pedestrian and bus connections.

Consent has been given for some illuminated signs of the old Argos site at 32 High Street, Midsomer Norton, including one showing customers where to head., The decision on the signs to mark the former shop being turned into a space run by the Gym Group , was a delegated decision and within the ruling it was noted that there was only ONE objection made. That was : " Not in need of a gym, we do however need doctors surgery's dentists and proper shops."
Work on The Shambles in Radstock continues apace with the discharge of several of the planning conditions. Planners have discharge of conditions 2, 19 and 20 of application 17/04186/FUL. A reminder that the site is being made into an area which will have ten new residential units and one commercial space.
