Police are investigating after two young women reported having their drinks spiked while on a night out in Midsomer Norton.

It happened on Saturday night, 30 October. The women both began to feel unwell after leaving one venue at about 11.30pm to head to another. They then became separated from each other.

The 18-year-old woman managed to call a family member to pick her up. She later needed ambulance treatment.

The other woman, aged 22, was found unconscious by a member of the public who alerted security staff. Her family were contacted and took her to hospital in Bath where she remained overnight.

Officers have taken statements from both women and requested CCTV from the venue.

Enquiries continue. If you have any information about what happened please call 101 and give the reference 5221255490.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team are engaging with local licensees to raise awareness that this issue does not only affect pubs and clubs in the bigger towns and cities.

If you believe your drink has been tampered with on a night out please alert bar or security staff at the venue and seek immediate medical advice, as well as making a report to the police as soon as possible. The same applies if you're with someone and believe their drink has been tampered with.

Adding drugs or more alcohol to someone's drink without their knowledge or permission could result in serious harm if the person suffers an adverse reaction.

It's a criminal offence carrying a sentence of up to 10 years. If used to commit another offence, such as robbery or sexual assault, that sentence would be higher.
