You may have heard the timeless question, "Why did the chicken cross the road?" But Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Guy Dury found himself confronting a slightly different version of the conundrum: "Why is that tortoise crossing the road?"
While patrolling the Coleford area yesterday, PCSO Dury did a double-take as he spotted a surprising sight. A small tortoise, who was later identified as Hamish, was trudging across the road, having made an adventurous escape from his home garden.
Hamish had managed to journey a considerable distance across fields before reaching the road. The unexpected sight brought a moment of levity to an otherwise typical day in law enforcement.
Quickly coming to the tortoise's aid, PCSO Dury safely gathered up the pint-sized adventurer, providing him with a much-needed drink and some food. His unexpected journey had surely built up a tortoise-sized appetite and thirst.
After a well-deserved snack break, Hamish was returned to his owner, much to their relief. The adventurous tortoise's outing ended safely and positively, leaving both the community and law enforcement with a story to chuckle about.
"We love a happy ending," PCSO Dury said, reflecting on the day's unexpected events. The incident serves as a gentle reminder of the quiet adventures happening even in our own backyards. And while Hamish's journey may not answer the age-old question about chickens and roads, it certainly adds a new twist to the tale.
