Posting their painting wins: Young talent from Midsomer Norton Primary

By Susie Watkins 16th Dec 2020

Somer Valley FM, the local radio station for North East Somerset,

based in Midsomer Norton, held a painting competition for their Christmas cards, with children from Norton Hill Primary School.

Station Manager at Somer Valley FM, Richard Burgess explained how the idea had formed.

"The school originally got in touch with us after their terrific efforts during lockdown to produce their own clay poppies for the poppy day appeal. We were delighted to broadcast how well they'd done in raising £175.

"When we were planning our Christmas Cards, we wanted to involve our local community in the design, so asked if the school would run a painting competition. And as an added bonus, after one of her regular appearances on our radio shows, the Mayor Lynda Robertson kindly agreed to judge. "

The children were asked to design a Christmas card for Somer Valley FM with 'Midsomer Norton' as the theme. When asked what their favourite part of their town was, the children wanted to base their

design around the post box that is in the town centre.

Kerrie Courtier (Executive Headteacher) said: "There are exciting times ahead for the school, as we officially move to our new school

in Silver Street on 6th January 2021."
