Promise of some Mediterranean sunshine in this cold weather... the latest from the Radstock Mayor

The Radstock Mayor writes:

t has been a while since mention was made of our French twinning town, Lançon-Provence. Eighteen months ago we were due to send a posse of local people to formalise the twinning at a special ceremony there but Covid intervened and everything was put on ice.

In that time they had a change of mayor (he is elected every 8 years) and picking up the pieces was not very straightforward. Just recently the Mayor's office contacted me to ask whether we would like to visit Lançon over the last weekend of April. They are hoping that we might sign then and another twin-town, Alpedrete, Madrid will be signing with us.

If anyone is thinking of holidaying in the South of France, Lançon is an ideal starting point. Two airports, Marseille and Montpellier can be reached from Bristol and the town is handy for some of the most attractive parts of France, such as the Camargue and the lavender fields of Provence. Lançon is an old hill-top fortress and looks down on verdant pastures, vineyards and olive groves. The local wine is rosé and very good it is too! Olive oil is pressed locally and calissons (sweet almond candy) are made here although mostly found in Bath's twin city of Aix nearby.
