A day of proud remembrance : Radstock Branch Centenary Ceremony
The Radstock side of the Midsomer Norton and Radstock Branch of the Royal British Legion, celebrated the 100th birthday of the formation of the Radstock Branch, which came into being as Radstock British Legion, on April the 3rd, 1922.
The celebrations began, on Wednesday the 6th of April, with a church service at St Nicholas Church Radstock with many members and guests attending, after which, a Rowan tree was planted by the Radstock War Memorial in the Miners' Garden.
The tree was planted by West of England Mayor Dan Norris watched by guests and Legion members including the Somerset Royal British Legions County Chairman, Major Robert McDonald.
After these events, a reception was held at the Radstock Museum, giving everyone a chance to warm up after a very cold tree plant.
During the service the Revd Ian Rousell offered the Bidding telling those gathered: " We give thanks for the tireless, dedicated, and distinguished work of all those who have lived out the Legion's motto of 'Service not Self'. We meet to pray a blessing on the work of the Legion in its care for serving personnel, veterans, and their dependents."
The Midsomer Norton and Radstock Royal British Legion wish to thank a number of people who helped smooth things on the day, including Sean Fletcher (Radstock Council Gardener), The Rev Ian Rowsell (St Nicholas Church) and Lucy and Jeanette at Radstock Museum for dishing up copious amounts of tea and coffee and finally Docky's for their delicious buffet.
