Local hardware store, Thomson's has been re-ordering fence paints and weatherproofing for the sudden rush of people in Radstock deciding it is time to spruce up their homes.

Owner Jo Milling, has put in several re-orders for paint and varnishes, as customers make the most of the dry weather and the lockdown.

The business, on Fortescue Road has been going for 122 years and has only had three owners in all that time.

Jo said she hopes to keep it open for as long as possible or " Unless Boris tells us to go home."

The other product they are selling a lot of : masonry care and wood preserve.

She and her family have been running the shop since 1973 but for much of those 47 years it was run by her dad, Thomas Thomson, hence the name.

Radstock residents will be pleased to know that Thomas, who is now 93, is still actively involved in the business. " He still tells me what to do," says Jo. " He is my dad and that is what dads do isn't it?"

Thomson Hardware has been classified as an essential retailer, so the shop has been open uninterpreted since March 24.

They just say : " Please be mindful of social distancing to keep our staff safe, and we would prefer card or contactless payment wherever possible. Come and see us if you need anything, we're here for you and will do our very best to help."
