Radstock Town Council asked to look into putting a gate onto the football club area
Radstock Town Council has been asked to look into installing a gate to shut the approach to the local football ground at night and when there are no matches on.
Councillors were told at their annual general meeting that so -called "unsavouries" had been using the car park and recreational area.
They were told that putting a gate on the approach the Radstock Town FC ground would cost in the region of £700.
The meeting agreed to consider the cost and look into what measures would be needed to make the area more secure.
The Southfields gate was one of a number of Radstock issues discussed at the virtual meeting on May 4.
B&NES Alderman and resident Terry Reakes began the meeting by telling councillor he had been at the Orchard speaking to families using the green space.
That is officially Church Street Recreation Ground (behind the library car park) and he told Radstock Town Council that families were appreciative of the space, however : " Perhaps the area could do with a little more attention. As a council we could do more especially now we have lost the green area for the doctor's new surgery.
" The area is really appreciated but we can make improvements here. Put in some tables and some chairs for them to use for picnics?"
Other issues discussed at the meeting:
:The council is to consider buying a chipper to dispose of cuttings and foliage from the green areas around the town, with the resulting mulch to be used on the beds and borders.
:The second Radstock defibrillator is soon to be activated at the old phone box adjacent to the wheel, they are just waiting to complete some work on the flooring of the box.
:The next meeting of the Town Council may have to be in the open air, possibly at the Memorial Gardens following a national ruling that councils must begin to move back to meetings in town halls.

Councillors heard that while meetings could no longer be held virtually, the Methodist Hall would welcome them back, but it is not clear that it is coronavirus secure to meet in person. There is also an issue of numbers of those who could attend any outdoor meeting, with the town clerk advising councillors that at least four needed to be there to make the meeting a quorum. However a big crowd - even under umbrellas - would not, one councillor quipped, be welcome.
