They won !

A proposal put forward by Radstock Town FC has won the backing of Somerset FA who are introducing a cup for the under 18s across the county.

Incredibly only Somerset and Cornwall were alone - in the UK - in not having a formal cup to play for with their younger teams.

Then today (June 2) the result the footballers up at The Miners were hoping for ... yes there will be a county-wide cup competition.

It was a year ago Radstock Town FC proposed to Somerset FA at its AGM to run a U18 County cup and the association voted to see if a competition was feasible and there was enough interest.

In its bid the team told the FA : "Somerset FA is along with Cornwall FA currently the only mainland county FA's not to run a county wide U18 Cup competition whilst there are clubs competing at the U18s age group from the county in six various league competitions within the region........ We felt whilst offering more games for our players it would also provide games against opposition teams may not normally come up against. "

The Club are thrilled by the decision. Now all they need is for the football to re-start.

Somerset FA said in a statement that have yet to get a cup but they have some details about who Radstock will be up against.

It states: " With regard to the new Somerset FA Under 18 Cup, we haven't yet purchased the cup, that would have been something we would have been doing over the last few weeks, which has obviously been delayed by events. As soon as we are out of lockdown and our Trophy Supplier is open, they are at the moment shut and staff furloughed, we can begin to get a trophy.

"In regards to entry, this season we had 41 male under 18 teams affiliated, this reflects our potential entrants, however in real terms this will invariably be less as I don't imagine every team will enter and of course we don't know the effect of Coronavirus on team retention at this number. We won't know how big the field will be until entrance closes on 1st August."
