Radstock's MP visits Paulton pool to lend his support
In his latest column for Nub News, Jacob Rees Mogg MP has been writing about his support for a local project.
He writes: Last week, I visited Paulton Swimming Pool where I was delighted to have been shown around and have the opportunity to talk to staff about the venue. Whilst at the pool, I was told that they would like to expand their facilities to build disabled changing rooms and a multi-function room. Presently, the swimming pool is well used but does not have any facilities for disabled people. In addition, the single office serves as a changing room for the staff. Paulton Swimming Pool is undoubtedly popular, I understand that eight local schools have regular swimming sessions there so it is clearly a popular place to exercise and play. I agreed with the staff that if the building could be renovated – to include disabled amenities and upgrade existing ones for both staff and customer use – this would add great value. The pool has been granted planning permission by Bath and North East Somerset Council to build an extension and make any necessary improvements but this will cost in the region of £150,000. I know, having spoken to staff, that they are having difficulties raising the money in spite of having had small fundraisers. The pool is such an asset to the local community and I know that if these changes could be made it would be accessible for everyone to use. If any readers have any money-raising ideas, would like to make a donation or could assist in any way please do not hesitate to get in touch with the pool: [email protected]. I know that any help given to this worthwhile project would be gratefully received.
