The much-anticipated first diesel rail gala of the year will be on track in Midsomer Norton as normal, in spite of a slight communication problem - organisers are keen to stress.

There was some miscommunication along the line when ONE of the trains due at next weekend's gala had to pull out.

An unfortunate signalling issue led many to be told that Somerset and Dorset Railway diesel event, over two days March 8 and 9, had been shunted.

But rail and other enthusiasts need not fear. One special diesel train could not make it, but thanks to the hard work of the dedicated team of volunteers at the Midsomer Norton station, there are lots of others pulling into town.

The group had hoped to wave in a visit of a class 26 locomotive D5343 from the Gloucester Warwickshire Railway. Unfortunately due to an engine fault that had to be cancelled, but the gala is still ON and promising some train treats.

The updated timetable now includes a Class 03 D2128 , a Class 08 D4095 and an English Electric D1120.

But if none of that means much the two day event has plenty for the non-rail enthusiasts, and their families, to enjoy. The station will be teaming with engines, exhibits, short trolley rides and over 12 train journeys on each of the weekend days.

every one of the two days - whatever the weather.

Head of Operations Mike Abbott said: " We have a packed programme running doubles from 10am, so there will be a lots of action, come rain or shine."

Chairman Graham Findley added: " Everyone is welcome, we are hoping for a good turn out, so please come along."

Volunteers at the heritage site are busy every day working on the track and points, and of course all the engines and carriages, so they promise even if you have been before, it will surprise you how far they have come. Full details of the event under the Red Button.
