Relief as TSB confirms Midsomer Norton branch is safe from closure
Staff at the Midsomer Norton branch of TSB are relieved to have learnt that they are not one of the 86 branches across the UK due to close, and their jobs are safe, at least for now.
The busy branch, which has only recently completed a major electrical and systems upgrade, will not be closing, TSB has confirmed today (November 28).
One member of staff, who did not want to be named, told Midsomer Norton Nub News: "We are relieved.
"It would have been poor news before Christmas for sure. But we are always busy with customers so we would have been surprised if we had been chosen to close."
Branch manager Tina Manley was not available for comment.
Four hundred staff across the company will be losing their jobs in a drive to cut costs. The bank announced on Monday that it wants to save £100 million by 2022 after an IT problem last year.
The bank, under Spanish parent company Sabadell, says it will try and put employees who lose their jobs in other parts of the business.
The Midsomer Norton news was welcomed by the team at the local council offices which is next door to the branch.
A closure would have been a big blow, as the town is about to embark on a major regeneration program.
