Works to reduce flooding and improve safety at the Churchill Gyratory in Bath city centre will begin on March 28.

The drainage improvement scheme will be carried out by Bath & North East Somerset Council on the section of the gyratory opposite the junction with Churchill Bridge, a location that floods regularly and poses a hazard to motorists.

The first phase of the works is expected to take approximately two weeks and will require the inner lane of the gyratory to be closed, with all roads approaching the gyratory to be reduced to a single lane.

The second phase includes drainage works on the southbound side of Churchill Bridge and is expected to take a further week.

Motorists are being advised that the lane restrictions are likely to cause delays in this part of the city.

The lane closures will be removed during the weekends if safe to do so.

Councillor David Wood, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, said: "These are important works to tackle a flooding problem which will improve the resilience of our road network and improve safety. Churchill Gyratory is a very busy junction in the centre of Bath so unfortunately there will be some delays to traffic. It's not possible to carry out these works without lane closures, but the gyratory will remain open throughout. Thank you for your patience while we complete these essential works."
