A collaborative scheme to repair and improve a Somerset bridleway has been celebrated with a royal visit.

HRH The Princess Royal was guest of honour at Faulkland Farm near Hemington to see the results of repair and resurfacing works carried out by the Mendip Bridleways & Byways Association (MBBA) with funding from Somerset County Council and The British Horse Society (BHS).

Councillor John Woodman, Somerset County Council's Cabinet Member with responsibility for Rights of Way, said: "This scheme is testament to what can be achieved by partnership working with equestrian groups, landowners and local contractors, and we're very grateful to the MBBA and BHS for their continued support.

"I'm sure the existing working partnership we have with MBBA will continue to help deliver improvements for all users of bridleways and byways in the Mendip area and help to stretch limited funds that bit further.

"This path has always been tricky to navigate in wet weather due to the deep sticky clay so these improvements have been very welcome.

"It was a great honour to meet HRH The Princess Royal and see the results. Thank you to everyone involved."

HRH The Princess Royal is Vice-Patron of the BHS and met with representatives from the BHS, MBBA and the Council's rights of way team at the event in early July.
