A new campaign is underway to save the current Midsomer Norton street marshalls - some of whom have been working to keep the town safe for ten years.

The decision to take the contract away from the existing company, which helps with security in Midsomer Norton, particularly on a Saturday night, was greeted with some confusion by residents.

In the middle of May it was announced that Midsomer Norton Town Council had removed the contract for providing security teams from RS Security and awarded it to Midas.

It has been reported that the contract cost over £18,000.

On social media, one resident simply asked the question 'why' this was happening.

Now concern about a new set of faces, who perhaps may not know so many people in Midsomer or the flashpoints in the High Street, has led one ocal to start an on line petition to fight the decision. You can see and sign that petition HERE

They also asked why the contract was removed from a team who have worked in the Midsomer streets, many for a decade.

They said the current stewards are well known and trusted. Adding : " Lately incidents of sexual assaults and spiking have taken place and now more than ever people, women especially, should be able to trust the street marshalls. They go above and beyond to help calm and trouble and deal with drunk people and there is absolutely no good reason they should be replaced. "

Midsomer Norton Town Council has been approached for comment.
