Work started last week on improving traffic safety on the Withies Bridge development.

After a serious collision in April, which was caught on camera and reported in Nub News, B&NES Highways visited the site to talk with Midsomer Norton's Deputy Mayor, Cllr Gordon Mackay.

Due to the structure of the bridge, speed-reducing bollards were deemed unsuitable. However, in order to stop cars cutting over the pavement, the kerbs are now being raised on each side. It is hoped this will encourage cars to slow down while also protecting pedestrians.

Cllr Mackay said "I'm very grateful that B&NES Highways have listened to residents concerns and are making these improvements, it's really appreciated. Hopefully this will help reduce the speed of traffic coming into the development and make it safer for children playing outside." He continued, "We'll monitor the situation carefully but I also think some extra road makings and perhaps some light-weight bollards, or similar, might be needed too. It's so important that children should be able to play safely outside their homes. But, this is a great start and my thanks go to B&NES Highways for prioritising this work."
