Sunday saw Somer Athletics Club make the short trip to Wiltshire to participate in the 10km and 2 mile races held at Longleat House. The races comprise a two mile first lap before the 10km runners have a longer, more challenging second lap, all finishing in front of Lord Bath's stately home.

Out of nearly 500 participants, it was a bumper turn out by Somer's athletes. Over 40 runners were involved, drawn from their Juniors, Youth and Seniors sections. All took on the challenge of the hilly routes in delivering great performances. Despite a few aching muscles on Monday, it was clear that this established event was great fun and enjoyed by everyone.

Somer's ladies dominated the medal positions. In the 10km race, Tori Ratcliffe came in as first lady in 39:20, ahead of clubmate Rosie McKissock in 41:31.

Roxy Lear celebrated her first race as a Somer junior. She impressed by securing the female bronze in the two mile race in a speedy 17:15; an achievement celebrated by Roxy's family and her fellow Somer runners and coaches.

Roxy, who goes to High Littleton C of E Primary School is already dedicated to her chosen sport. Mum Karen Lear said: " ''We were so shocked, but very pleased to see that Roxy achieved 3rd overall female out of all of the runners. We are so proud of her and her achievements. She works so hard and it's times like these where she can see that hard work really does pay off. We would like to thank Somer AC and also High Littleton Primary for all the cross country/running advice they have given. "
